Real Talk Series: Understanding the College Student Mental Health Landscape - Part 1
Wednesday, October 21 | 6:00 p.m. EST | Virtual via Microsoft Teams
The college years are a time of growth, exploration, and increased independence, but they can also bring unique challenges that affect student well-being. Academic pressures, social transitions, financial concerns, homesickness, anxiety, and other mental health challenges can all impact a student's college experience.
Join Parent and Family Relations and the Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center for an informative conversation about the current mental health landscape facing college students. During this session, families will learn about common mental health concerns affecting students today, protective and risk factors that can influence well-being, and changes in behavior that may indicate a student is struggling.
Families will also learn how to recognize signs that a student may be struggling, engage in supportive conversations about mental health and well-being, encourage help-seeking behaviors, and better understand the resources available at William Paterson University.
Presented by Daisy Rodriguez, MSW, LCSW, DRCC, Director of the Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center, this session will provide valuable insight into how families can remain supportive partners in their student's well-being while respecting their growing independence.
Whether your student is thriving, struggling with the transition to college, or somewhere in between, this session will offer information and tools to help families better understand and support the mental health needs of today's college students.
Registration is required. Families who register will receive the Microsoft Teams meeting information prior to the session.
